A Las Vegas man accused of shooting dead his girlfriend last month was caught on doorbell camera footage threatening to kill her.

Markeem Benson, 29, allegedly shot 33-year-old tattoo artist Renise Wolfe in the back of the head four times in her apartment on December 22, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

He had originally claimed he was acting in self-defense when he turned himself in to North Las Vegas police later in the day.

But doorbell camera footage presented to a grand jury earlier this month, which has since been obtained by KLAS, seem to refute those claims.

It shows him walking into Wolfe's apartment, muttering: 'I just almost want to kill you b****. I just want to kill yo' ass.'

Several videos captured over the next few hours showed Benson wearing different clothing, and crime scene photos from Wolfe's apartment showed him allegedly trying to wipe up blood.

At around 1.20am that day, the surveillance footage also recorded the sounds of about two to four gunshots, KSNV reports.

Yet the North Las Vegas Police Department was not called to the scene until 10.16am, when Benson's father told a dispatcher he wanted to turn himself in.

'Ma'am I believe there's been, there's a murder, ma'am,' Eric Benson could be heard telling the dispatcher in audio obtained by KLAS.

'I can't even think straight. Just send police to Buffalo Wild Wings,' he pleaded.

When the dispatcher then asked who had been killed, the worried father replied that it was his son's girlfriend.

'They got into it and they tussled with the gun,' he told police. 'She, she - it went off, and he said she's dead.'

Benson could also be heard in his father's call confirming that the shooting happened the night prior.

'Markeem said he fell asleep after the shooting and police were not notified for almost nine hours after the shooting,' officers wrote in the arrest report.

Police then met Benson outside of the restaurant, from where he pointed out Wolfe's apartment before he was taken into custody.

The officers who responded to the scene then found Wolfe dead from gunshot wounds, with a gun and magazine near her body.

In their analysis of the scene, the detectives determined the shots were fired from a downward angle while Wolfe was on the ground.

'This means Markeem would have been standing over the top of Renise as he fired that round,' the police report states, with an autopsy later confirming that Wolfe was shot four times in the back of the head.

Her family has previously said she and Benson attended a family holiday party hours before she was killed.

The family said she seemed happy in her relationship, which had only been going on for five months, and thought Benson was a caring and loving boyfriend.

Wolfe's mother, Tracy Coleman, even noted that Benson was always checking in on Wolfe and dropping in at her tattoo studio to see her.

The only sign that anything was wrong was when Benson appeared to recognize a woman at the family holiday party, which sparked an argument between him and his girlfriend.

But when he and Wolfe left the party that night, Benson promised Wolfe's mother that he would 'get her home safe' and 'take care of her.'

Instead, Coleman said, 'He shot her while she was laying on the ground. In a fetal position behind the ear.'

'What does that tell you?'

Officers report that a witness with whom they spoke during an ensuing investigation told police Benson was 'very possessive' and had physical fights in the past.

He had two prior convictions for home invasion and attempted robbery, as well as several arrests for domestic violence-related offenses.

At the time of the shooting, Benson was even on probation for an attempted robbery conviction.

Benson was indicted by a grand jury on January 14 on charges of open murder with the us of a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

He is due back in court on February 6.
