Charlie Hunnam looks unrecognizable as he transforms into serial killer Ed Gein for Monster

Charlie Hunnam looked unrecognizable as he transformed into serial killer Ed Gein for Ryan Murphy's new show.

In the third season of the Netflix anthology series Monster, the 44-year-old actor will portray the notorious serial killer and body snatcher after the first two seasons faced widespread backlash.

While on set of the production in Los Angeles, Hunnam transformed into Gein as he went for a clean shaven appearance.

He appeared strikingly different from his usual and distinctive facial hair, as he sported a comb over hairstyle reminiscent of the infamous killer's look.

While portraying the murderer, Hunnam was seen chatting with a police officer on set in his '50s inspired garb.

The Sons of Anarchy star donned a brown and muted green, striped button-down, which he layered with a red, plaid worker's jacket.

He donned brown, straight-leg trousers and a pair of distressed leather, lace-up boots.

He was on set alongside his co-star, Vicky Krieps — who donned a bright yellow dress with a blonde wig while on set.

The Luxembourgish-German actress donned taupe-colored running sneakers and black, fingerless gloves.

As she arrived on set, she had red paint on her cheek.

After putting on her wig, she was seen walking around on set with her robe, a takeout container and her tote bag.

At one point, she was seen strolling around with the hood of her long, maxi dress over her head.

In between scenes, she was seen chatting with the cast and crew. She was in bright spirits as they played around on set.

Gein was a notorious American murderer and body snatcher who exhumed corpses.

He would use the remains of his victims to create disturbing items, including furniture and clothing, leading to his arrest in 1957.

Gein was nicknamed the Butcher of Plainfield and committed his crimes in the city of Wisconsin near his hometown where he grew up.

The serial killer later died from lung cancer at age 77 on July 26, 1984 in a psychiatric hospital, where he had been held for nearly three decades since he was convicted.

Murphy announced Hunnam's casting in the third season of the Monster anthology series back in September while promoting Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.

The second season was preceded by the first, which starred Evan Peters and was titled DAHMER: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.

The upcoming season will also star Tom Hollander, Laurie Metcalf and Olivia Williams.

Carl Franklin, who worked on both the first and second seasons of Monster, will be returning to direct this season.

Murphy and Ian Brennan will remain executive producers.

Filming kicked off last month and will continue for several months before the expected wrap date of March 31, 2025.

As production is still ongoing, a release date for the third season of Monster has not yet been confirmed.
