Amanda Seyfried reacted to her Wicked 'audition tape,' a video of herself singing a song from the musical, going viral online.
The 39-year-old actress — who was rumored to have auditioned, competing against Ariana Grande, for the role of Galinda in the musical movie adaptation — addressed why she filmed that recently surfaced video.
The now-viral clip of her singing Popular in a silver princess dress was not her 'leaked audition clip,' she told People last Tuesday.
She said she wanted to clear the air and explained that while she did later go on to audition for Wicked, that particular video was made 'in jest.'
She explained she was 'just f***ing around really' when she filmed the video, which was posted in January 2023, and posted it.
About her actual audition and not landing the role, the Mamma Mia! star — who revealed the reason why she left Hollywood to live on a farm — also shared her thoughts.

'I think it was during COVID,' Seyfried recalled about the time she was wearing the dress reminiscent of Glinda the Good Witch.
'I was doing a Lancôme shoot in Long Island City. Elizabeth Stewart [was] my stylist.'
She continued: 'I was not auditioning for Wicked yet, but I knew it was, like, coming up. So I was just f***ing around really, and I was like, "This dress is so Glinda. And Elizabeth was like, "Do it." And then she posted at some point.'
Seyfried said that while she loves her stylist, 'maybe it would be better if it hadn't been posted.' She explained 'it was truly just a fun, like, [behind-the-scenes] moment of my Lancôme shoot.'
The Dropout star said that even though the video was 'in jest,' she did go on to later audition for the role of Glinda.
'I went hard for that, for sure,' she admitted. 'And it was a very long process. And everything happens the way it's meant to.'
She later added that she thought the film was 'fantastic.'
She also praised Grande, who ended up getting the role she auditioned for.

Seyfried previously opened up about how difficult it was auditioning for the role of Glinda.
'I have dreams that I'm still auditioning for Wicked,' she said in a July 2022 interview with Backstage.
She recalled how she was going through the long audition process for the role all while filming The Dropout.
'On the weekends, I was auditioning in person to play Glinda in the movie version of Wicked — because I wanted it that much that I was like, "You know what? Yeah, I have to play the last scene of The Dropout on Tuesday. I'll give my Sunday to you."
'I literally bent over backwards while playing the hardest role of my life,' she said.
About what she learned from that experience, Seyfried shared: 'I think it also taught me how far I've come as a singer, which I really wanted to prove. Because ever since Les Mis, I was like, "I need to be better. I need to do better."
'So whatever comes next in terms of musicals, I'm finally prepared.'

Then, Seyfried shared that she has been focused on preparing for her upcoming role. The silver screen star is set to star opposite Sydney Sweeney in the upcoming thriller-mystery The Housemaid, which is based on the 2022 same-name novel; pictured December 2023 in New York City

She said that she has had to dye her hair more blonde for the role.
'I was excited because I am pretty boring. I needed a change,' she said about changing her look.
'So I was like, "You know what? This is going to be the big movie where I do something different."'
She added that the new look also 'really does help me get into character.'
