Miranda Hart was left screaming with horror after her appearance on Alan Carr's podcast took a chaotic turn this week.

The Call The Midwife star, 52, was appearing on Alan's Life's A Beach podcast, when his rogue dog Rita decided to crash the interview.

During a clip from the interview, Miranda and Alan could be seen chatting on a sofa, with the actress picking up her cup of tea to have a sip.

'Come and sit here,' Alan could be heard saying to his dog, Rita, who failed the listen, with the comedian saying: 'She's deaf.'

Resuming their conversation, Miranda took a sip from her cup, while Alan could be heard saying to his dog: 'Come here now.'

But instead of going to Alan, Rita jumped into Miranda's lap, leading her to spill tea all over herself.

Both stars were left in utter hysterics by the gaffe, with Alan saying: 'Oh no! Rita's just thrown a cup of tea over Miranda' before standing up and walking out of the frame.

'Oh my god,' Alan added, before asking Miranda if the tea was 'scalding her' as she held a towel on her stomach.

Alan said: 'This is the worst beginning to a podcast ever,' before Miranda explained how the tea had gone all over her.

The Chatty Man star quipped that his dog 'hates Miranda' and added: 'she's never jumped up and thrown tea!'

A panicked Miranda added that she had to stop and figure out if she had 'genuinely burnt herself' because it was 'piping hot tea'.

Saying: 'I think it's fine,' Alan offered to pay her dry cleaning bill, before asking if she wanted another shirt to put on.

The amusing clip, which Alan shared on Instagram, left many of his followers in hysterics, and they were quick to share their appreciation in the comments.

Miranda has recently returned to the public eye following a lengthy absence, stunning fans with the news that she secretly got married over the summer - after she began dating a mystery man who removed mould from her house in 2020.

He was later revealed as divorcee Richard - after he was pictured picking her up from the Cheltenham Literature Festival last month – 24 hours after she divulged his first name on The Graham Norton Show.

Miranda remained tight-lipped about her husband's identity before it was revealed, referring to him only as 'The Boy' or 'The Mould Man' in her new book, I Haven't Been Completely Honest With You.

But she revealed that they got engaged in January during a trip to Kew Gardens in west London after revealing they had 'fallen hopelessly in love with each other'.

She hinted slightly at his appearance, describing her new husband as a 'salt-and-pepper greying hair look on a fine-featured man'.

Miranda made every effort to hide her marriage plans – refusing to post her wedding bands, as is traditional for a church wedding - and is understood to have specifically requested that guests refrain from sharing details on social media.

Richard, who plays the drums in his local swing band, was previously married to schoolteacher Jeanne Speight. The couple, who have a son Jack and daughter Shula, split in around 2017 after more than 25 years of marriage.

Miranda has also shared that she was recently diagnosed with Lyme disease after suffering the debilitating symptoms of fatigue, aches and loss of energy for three decades.

She went public with her health struggles for the first time in her new memoir I Haven't Been Entirely Honest With You, as well as detailed falling in love with her now-husband.

Miranda has since revealed that she was forced to give up work opportunities due to her ill health.

She said: 'You know that the hardest thing I found was letting go of work and the pain of not being able to work.

'So, no, I couldn't work because I became ill and I tried to keep going before the diagnosis and it didn't go well, and, I feel like I want to say thank you to all those dear producers and directors that had to work with me when we didn't know what was going on and I was so unwell, but I hated having to stop work.'

She continued: 'I hated giving up work… The phone completely stopped ringing and no one texted me, nothing, absolutely nothing. Just a few very kindly people who'd occasionally touch in and go, "Just come back when you're ready".'

However, Miranda explained that her mystery husband had helped her heal following her years of 'deep deep aloneness' and gushed he was a 'brilliant best friend of a man'.
